The board reviewed and discussed the June 2019 (Issue #101) edition of the Illinois Association of School Board’s PRESS Update Memo and potential impacts to CCSD59 policies. The board will continue to discuss the updates to policy at a future board meeting.

Adoption of Budget: Fiscal Year 2019-20 – 7.01

The CCSD59 2019-20 budget has been on public display since July 1, 2019, meeting the thirty day notice required by law. Notice of its availability was published in the Journal and Topics newspaper and it was available online on the District website. A public hearing regarding the budget also was held on August 5, 2019.
Key points of the 2019-20 budget include:
- The 2019-20 budget is balanced.
- The estimated operating funds aggregate on June 30, 2020, is projected to be a $1.1 million surplus.
- There was not a reduction in staff to obtain the estimated surplus in the 2019-20 budget.
- The 2019-20 budget continues to support students through social-emotional learning, coaching and learning support, early learning, and intervention programming.
The board adopted the 2019-20 budget, which is July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. The final adopted 2019-20 budget can be viewed here.

Approval of Grant Application with the American Heart Association to Rupley Elementary School for $2,500 – 7.02

Rupley Elementary requested permission from the board to apply for a grant to increase student movement to develop healthy choices. Rupley has the potential to be awarded $2,500, which would be used to create a sensory hallway that promotes movement and practice of academic concepts as students move to different spaces within the building.
The board approved Rupley’s grant application to the American Heart Association in the amount of $2,500.
Acceptance of Donation from Rupley Retirees to Rupley Elementary School for $500 – 7.03
The board approved the donation from the Rupley Retirees in the amount of $500. The donation will support student recognition with the Appreciation of the Arts Award and visual displays at Rupley Elementary School.
