In math, we started our first learning experience. We will be the engineers and we will be building bridges. Here is our focus:
- Measurements are used to describe our surroundings, make decisions, and/or solve problem
- Recognizing when different levels of precision are needed
Our first activity was to build a chain, using only one piece of construction paper, scissors and glue. No other directions were given. It was up to the teams to figure out how to cut the paper and glue it in order to make the longest chain. We’ve learned that even though every group received the same size construction paper, the length of the chains was different depending on the width of the chain links. We have also observed that the wider the strips we cut, the stronger the chain appeared to be. We also measured our chains in inches as well as centimeters.
