Back to School Event at Oasis Begins Another Great Year
As the summer begins to wind down, CCSD59 and its students and families are gearing up for the start of another great school year.
Beginning-of-the-school-year excitement was palpable at the Oasis Mobile Home Park this past Saturday, August 13. Local organizations including CCSD59, D214, The Salvation Army, Harper College, Cook County Sheriff’s Department, Elk Grove Township, and The Bridge Church partnered to organize this event.
The celebration included a 5K race, free pizza, outdoor games, and music. Students enjoyed interacting with the Cook County Sheriffs and the Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics, who brought vehicles and shared in the fun.
Thanks to donations from local sponsors, a generous raffle provided students and their families with some great prizes, including an Apple iPad, two Google Nexus 7 tablets, a new bike, gift cards for student spirit wear and local grocery stores, and much more. Every student in attendance also received a new back pack, many of which were filled with supplies.
“Our vision for this event really came to life,” said Griselda Pirtle, Director of Multilingual Programs for CCSD59. “The joy and appreciation of our students and families really gets everyone excited about beginning a new school year together.”
