Dear 3rd grade parents,
What a fantastic first few weeks of school! The students have been working hard creating classroom expectations and learning our classroom routines. 3rd graders should know what our math/reading/writing workshops look like, sound like, and feel like. Students continue to work with me individually so I can learn more about them as a reader and eventually place them in guided reading groups. Students are learning the routines of literacy and math centers, using choice boards to give students authentic learning experiences on their own or with their peers. We started our first math unit on data and measurement. We have also enjoyed the beginning of our science unit on the Human Body.
Here is an example of a “choice board” students use to help guide their afternoon literacy block (while I work with guided reading groups, students are working independently or with peers quietly).

Please familiarize yourself with our class website. There are many resources for you and your 3rd grader to explore! I will notify you via e-mail when our website has been updated.
Thank you for encouraging your child to get into the habit of reading 20 minutes (or more!) each night and allowing them to take responsibility for their Reading Log. We’re off to a great start in 3rd grade!
Please do not hesitate to e-mail me or write a note in your child’s red folder if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns!
Thank you for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Ms. Scott
